We love helping Seattle smiles of all shapes, sizes, and age! While there’s no exact age for children to begin orthodontic treatment, the American Association of Orthodontists recommends the first orthodontic evaluation at the age of 7. Why so young? Early orthodontic treatment can have a profound impact on your child’s future oral health.
Early orthodontic treatment ensures the best results with the least amount of time and expense. By the age of seven, most children will have a mixture of baby teeth and adult teeth, making it easier to diagnose and correct problem areas sooner, reducing the possibility of extractions or surgery later on. Early orthodontic treatment may not always be necessary, but an evaluation helps Drs. Vaughn and Leone determine if and when treatment should begin.

At our practice, we believe prevention is better than intervention. Our focus for our young patients is to create a healthy, stable bite to last a lifetime. Early treatment allows our orthodontists to:
- Correct and guide jaw growth to help permanent teeth come into ideal position
- Correct malocclusion (improper bite)
- Create space for crowded teeth
- Prevent the need for tooth extractions down the road
- Improve minor speech problems
- Create facial symmetry
Whether your child is showing signs of needing orthodontic care, or your family dentist has recommended your child see an orthodontist for an evaluation, we encourage you to call our office. Our top orthodontists work with young Seattle smiles everyday!
